Hello
I have a map with about 120 point. Unfortunately, the points are somewhat clustered in a few areas. What I have done is created a custom symbol and then added a number on top. What I would now like to do is create an index on the side of the map with the symbol, name of the feature and its grid reference. Anyone know how I would do that using ArcMap (9.2)?
Thanks in advance

I can't help you with a GIS workflow, but 120 points is not very many to just do it quasimanually. You could do it the way we do with street maps: export the map (and gridline) to Illustrator. Open the map in Illustrator (I think there's a free 30-day download) and select the points within each square, copy and paste them into some text editor or spreadsheet. Add the grid coördinate to the features you just pasted. When finished, sort the list alphabetically.

Hi Bruce
is your index grid in your layout or data frame?
You could use DSMapBook or any number of arcscripts to create a uniform grid (fishnet) around your points.
Then do a spatial join which would give every point the attributes of the grid it exists in.
That should solve your problem...

I probably will end up doing that but it would be nice to figure it out in future.
