Hi guys!

I'm working on the final project of my intro to GIS class. I'm looking at Census information
at many locations across the country (United States). I have 2000's sf1 census info at the
block group level for the whole nation. I would like to be able to compare this to 1990's
data. I am looking at 2000 points across the nation so I need a shape file for the entire
nation that has sf1 info and be able to compare this to 2000. I found a .dbf file that had all
was supposed to have all the info, I tried to join it to the census block group shape file on
the census web site but this did not end up with great results. Does anyone know if a shapefile
with all of 1990's sf1 demographic info is available somewhere? Or how I could construct
one with better results than my last attempt? I saw that ESRI has something available called
1990's census in 2000's geography but at their prices that isn't an option. I found a .pdf from
census.gov that described how to rectify the differences in block groups but that isn't going to
be an issue until I get that far. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!!! I ask my
professor but he couldn't help me :( Thanks for reading, and for any help!!!! :)

You can get the boundaries from 1990 here by state:
http://www.census.go.../bdy_files.html

I didn't see an easy way to get the SF1 data for 1990, but there is an FTP site.

Thanks so much I think I got it figured out!!! I really appreciate you looking out and hope that as I increase in experience I will be able to contribute instead of just asking questions :/ Unfortunetly, I ran into a problem because the census blockgroups changed over time. The professor I'm working with said he has heard of an easy fix to get 1990 census data in 2000 geography but nobody I know has heard of it. On the Census website there is a link that seemed very promising
but when I clicked on it, it said the link was broken. Has anyone else encountered having to reconcile census
block groups from different census years. I am super grateful for any advice!!!!!!!

They have these relationship files that demonstrate how the census blocks from 1990 match census blocks from 2000:

http://www.census.go...te/rel_blk.html

Given the number of files and effort to pull all of this together you can see why ESRI charges for the equivalent.

David
