Hi all,
I posted this on the ESRI forum as well but didn't get any answer.
I've got a style file from a client who's symbols I'd like to customize.
My question is: I can add a bmp to a style,
but can I also export a style symbol to a bitmap
so that I can edit it?
cheers,
Rune

There are a number of ways. Probably the easiest is to create a graphic point using the Draw toolbar tools, symbolize the point with the marker symbol, change the size to your desired size (or larger, to avoid too much pixellation), and then copy/paste the graphic into Paint or other graphics app of your choice.
You could also export the whole map to bmp and crop out your symbol in a graphics app. Or make a graphic point as above in an otherwise empty layout and export that (to any of several graphic file formats).

Thanks a lot, I understand there's no direct way to 'reverse engineer' the style symbols.
I'll give your suggestion a try,
