Hi!

I'm would like to find and use a free/open source or commercial software in order to create deformed maps.

Something like this:

1. deformed map1
2. deformed map2

Do you have any idea about a software?

There are two options that I know of:

Scapetoad - http://scapetoad.choros.ch/
and QGIS has a cartogram creator plugin (add third party repositories to plugins and search for 'cartogram')

Hoefully one of those will work for you!

Take a look at this thread There is mention of a cartagram script for Arcmap. I believe it was written by another cartotalk member.

Note that your Tanzania example is not an area-proportional cartogram, it is just a plain geologic map.

I think you might also want to check out the Gastner-Newman 'cartogram' software on this page.

I have had good results with the ArcGIS Toolbox for Cartogram processing, but I don't know if that has been updated or works with ArcGIS 10 (which I am on now).
