Hello everyone. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience designing Garmin IMG files for MapSource through ArcGIS/Global Mapper/GPSMapEdit/cGPSmapper combo?

Currently I'm tiling a set together for Ontario (for our company's use) and am running into the challenge of creating custom colours for my maps. I can create topos all well and good, however, I want to be able to add significant wetlands, potential fish habitat, etc... I can do it using a predefined colour scheme already set by Garmin, but I want to customize the colour scheme.

I've got GenTYP, however I am at a loss as to how to actually create the colour schemes so they appear in GPSMapEdit. Is it even possible?

Hello dsl,

Thanks for your response. I checked out the two links and unfortunately they didn't solve my delimma. Adding data is the easy part, however changing the colour schemes of that data to something else seems difficult. For example, lets say I don't want my wetlands to have the Garmin wetland symbology, but rather be bright yellow solid fill. Well, then I would have to create what's called a 'TYPE'. I know it can be done, just wondering if anyone has had experience doing it!

I take it changing the style/type in Globalmapper doesn't do this then.

Found my answer. It is possible. It took a bit of time to get the hang of it. Much easier in GPSMapEdit. Managed to put most environmental designations on my work gps for the field crew. Much better and more efficient that using a trimble unit. No training!
