I've put together a little map of northern France and Belgium in the First World War - very simple. I've included 4 rivers and named them - the Seine, the Somme, the Marne and the Meuse. Initially I include just the name (so as to avoid this problem that I am about to describe) - e.g. Seine - but the client wants me to add "River" to the name and is is suggesting I put it after the name - e.g. Seine River. To me it feels that it should be River Seine, not Seine River. Same for the other rivers. Any thoughts on what is proper for these rivers? River first or last?
River Seine or Seine River?

Rudy,
You cant say River Seine. If you go French, it would have to be rivière Seine (no cap on rivière)
One solution I always use is to put riv. Seine. That works both in French and English.
Other solution could be La Seine, La Meuse etc..
and if all your other text is English then no problem with Seine River
