Hello!
I'm trying to calculate fragmentation density.
The only method which I know is by the help of Spatial Analyst extension from ESRI ArcView.
From toolbox- Spatial Analyst Tools-Line Density.
But the result is not suitable for me (different result expected), because I'm doing something wrong somewhere (I've set the search radius to be 1 km).
Maybe a better opinion in a different software (open-source or commercial) is needed.
Thanks!

You might want to spend some time iteratively trying different combinations of Output cell size and Search radius. After a few tries you might get closer to your desired output.

OK!
Thanks a lot for the useful information.
I'll try some experiments.

You can also look into Patch Analyst, it was developed from Fragstats.
