Hi,
I'm working with arcmap and very new to it. I have a series of points that represent the movement of a bird throughout a landscape. I have this data in a layer. I would like to connect these points somehow to make a route/path of this bird throughout time, but still have the individual points showing.
Can anybody help me with this? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
By the way, I am doing this on a computer where I can not add any extensions.

Hi Victoria,
This worked for me. I didn't find an easier way (e.g. using standard ArcMap):
1. Use ArcMap "Add XY Data" to create a point events layer
2. Export point events layer to .shp
3. Use the free "ET GeoWizards" extension from www.ian-ko.com. Choose the "Point to Polyline" option under Conversion.
See .zip for some testdata with, ehm, 2 birds making quite angular movements.

Hi Victoria,
Goto your ArcToolbox and find Samples
Under Data Management open Features
Here you will find a tool called Create Features From Text File
Export your locations table from ArcMap to something like excel and format it like this:
polyline
line_id part_number
pnt_id x y z m
pnt_id x y z m
...
line_id part_number
pnt_id x y z m
pnt_id x y z m
...
END
The example below represents a line feature class with two features. Feature zero contains two parts.
Line
0 0
0 1.0 1.0 0.0 0.0
1 2.0 2.0 0.0 0.0
2 3.0 3.0 0.0 0.0
0 1
0 4.0 4.0 0.0 0.0
1 5.0 5.0 0.0 0.0
2 6.0 6.0 0.0 0.0
1 0
0 1.0 6.0 0.0 0.0
1 2.0 5.0 0.0 0.0
2 3.0 4.0 0.0 0.0
END
Add the resulting line features under your existing point features in your TOC in ArcMap

I am doing this too.
I am putting a path between two points. It is the supposed course of bird migrating to warmer places during cold winters !!
finally experimented those link building services? I got eat stop eat in addition to tried on the extender to the diet solution that handled. You prefer all tinnitus miracle nevertheless burn the fat feed the muscle is useful a little too due to the truth about six pack abs you are aware of.
