Here's a challenge for us. I have a friend who is particularly interested in Kafka's various residences, tracking down the buildings, and seeing what they are like now, and the condition/location/state/status of them when Kafka was there.

The building I am trying to track down was a Sanitorium, or Sanitoria if you will. My information is sketchy to say the least, but I believe it's in Jungborn, Goslar District, near the Harz Mountains.

My German is not too good. Correction. Zero. Otherwise I may have located it.

There may be some clues here - a Kafka travel diary.

Ultimately I would like to download or locate historical mapping dating from 1911/1912, and further information about the building, such as it's subsequent usage.

Any Europhiles out there want to assist in this detective work?

Google earth as a David Ramsey layer that can be added, and you can see that collection of historical maps. There might be one from that time period available.

Hasdrubal - yes, I had trouble with online translation too. May need a Native German to translate old-skool style.

Sorry - can you expand on this? It's street-level info I'm after - do you think some resources are available? I'm not a frequent Google Earth user - may need assistance in adding a layer. Although I'm sure I can work it out...

Some online resources on Kafka give the information that K spent 3 weeks in 1912 in a sanatorium named Jungborn, located near the village Stapelburg. Jungborn was destroyed in 1964.

Sorry, I even misspelled it. Should be Rumsey. Here is the website. There are sever different viewers for the the collection, including Google earth, or the browser version of google earth. I don't know if they have street level views of the areas you are looking for, but I just thought it might.

Thanks dsl - there is a 1852 map of the Harz area.

I have tracked down the location now. There are some photos commemorating the site.

Prague has a Kafka Museum. I assume it would never be open.
