Calling All Cartographers for the first IMTA PechaKucha Map Design Session
The 2010 conference and trade show of the International Map Trade Association's Asia Pacific region will take place in Melbourne, Australia on 18 & 19 June. I encourage all cartographers to attend the cartographer's forum on 19. June and contribute a PechaKucha presentation. These should be a collection of 20 slides showing the evolution of a recent or favourite map from inception to final product. When assembled in a powerpoint presentation with each slide taking 20 seconds, we have a 6'40" presentation that should need no voice-over. Musical soundtracks are welcome. Following each presentation there will be time for questions and comments.
PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It's a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace. (from the PechaKucha website)
Future IMTA members are encouraged to participate, too. IMTA is dedicated to fostering the exchange of ideas and information and enhancing your knowledge and understanding of the mapping and spatial information industry. Join IMTA and receive all the benefits of membership or register for the day of the forum as a non-member. IMTA conference
I sincerely hope that you'll want to join us for what should be a fun and informative session, and maybe join the organisation, too!
