Actually I'm not a student of cartography but im very much interested in this as this is the part of my project which I want to do in engineering ,can anyone help me how to make a digital map from the scratch? please help!!

Okay, this is a *very* general question. So before we can give you some meaningful advice, we'll need some more information on what you're trying to accomplish.

- What do you want to make a map of? What part of the world, at what size and scale?
- Will this be a topographic or thematic map?
- What software do you have at your disposal?

-I want to make a map of my colony where I live in southern India and the distance of the colony is about less than a half kilometer it is a narrow colony with width around 200 meters (sorry for being vague as I'm not much aware of the size and scale).
-The map will be a topographic map
-I'm aware of GIS software

please do not mind for answering this post because I'm interested in learning it and I dont have anyone for the guidance and as I have to complete my project and I'm very thankful for your reply sir.
