Hi all,
I want to know the pros and cons of using open source Postgre Sql and Post GIS add on as compared to commercial ArcGIs server. Currently the organization I am working has an ArcGIs server 9.3 software licensed one and the organization wants to establish web based national road network system. The consultant suggests to use the open source software I mentioned previously. The experts are proposing to use the existing Arc GIS software . But the consultant is inclining to use the open source software. What I want to know is which one will be advantageous for the organisation in comparison to the additional annual budget for the yearly maintannace cost of ArcGIs.
hope to get valuable advice
thanku

Hi, you might get responses here, but I am not sure this is the right forum! I'd be curious to see a summary of the list in the end though.
I think you would start by mapping out your needs, before comparing the software, and then see how different solution matches those. Maybe you don't even need a GIS data server.
