Hello to all of you cartographers whose work I have surely admired. I am a complete novice, making maps since I was a kid and then as an adult for fun or to illustrate little books that I make for my friends and family. I would love to communicate with local cartographers and pick their brains. I just saw a piece on WHYY in Philadelphia about two cartographers in Delaware, so I am going to see if they are members here. I am enthusiastic and a good illustrator, and have drafting skills, but I don't know about the elements of cartographer that I need to know to, say, map a part of Fairmount Park, where I volunteer at a youth hostel. Sorry if this is rambling, but I am very glad to find a site where I might learn something and find people who make maps as a career or for fun. Abbe Harms
