Hi all, I'm Nic. I was graduated from UWO from London, ON, Canada with a Honor B.A. degree in Geography and Economics, and Sir Sandford Fleming College as a GIS Cartographic Specialist. When I was in school, I worked with some programmers to develop a web application with maps in a coop project.
Once I graduated, I went back to Hong Kong and have involved in a variety of GIS projects, such as create a road network in the Transportation Information System project for the Transport Department; create 3D models and maps for preliminary designs for new railways and subway stations; and perform spatial analysis for reclamation projects in Abu Dhabi, and etc.
I like GIS/Carto work; however, GIS/Cartography is not as popular as Canada, US...most of my project work do not involve maps. I'm seeking if there's any other chances out there for me to be a GIS/cartography freelance that I can draw some "real maps". If anyone is interesting in me, please feel free to contract me and I can send you my CV and my portfolio for your review. Thanks.

Assistant Cartographer

Hi, Nic: I'm also new to CartoTalk (only found out about it not long ago) who recently has been skimming through the discussions as a guest  . After realizing it's an expanding online community of "cartographers" with different backgrounds here (recent graduates, experts who already in the mapping industry, or even beginners, etc), I decided join CartoTalk too.

If you don't mind, can you briefly describe how was the "Cartographic Specialist" like at Fleming College (and also how long ago you graduated from there); I first heard about it from "words-of-mouth" 2 years ago. Because I am still studying Geography/GIS at Ryerson (Toronto, ON), which I might consider for that certificate program upon
graduation in the future. Off topic, I was from HK too (but I grew up in Canada).

It was posted, it just wasn't visible. To guard against spammers (and yes, there are quite a few) we have a rule in place that hides posts by new members until an admin approves them. I've done that now and also validated you both so that your posts will show up right away.

Oh, and welcome to Cartotalk!
