hi there,
I'm preparing a little instruction training for the inhouse infographic staff of a small german newspaper.
for that i planned a section of good examples of map use and creation worth imitating
do you know of a publication (could be a magazine or a daily newspaper) that does make exeptually good (and consitent!) use of maps?
ideally these maps are online to see.
thanks!, polyconic

National Geographic comes to mind
Since you mention it's for a newspaper, check out the Washington Post. One of our Cartotalk members, Nathaniel Vaughn Kelso, is working there as a cartographer. There's a good overview of what he's done there in his portfolio.

I find the New York Times' graphics department exceptional.

National Geographic and NY Times are impressive as other posts have suggested.
For a small newspaper though they may prove hard to match. I might suggest The Economist, which typically runs 4 or 5 maps each week that are carefully tailored to the corresponding articles.
for example

I should state an interest as I am part of the team who create these.
