This is a thank-you postcard that I made for a new acquaintance who took the time to tell me about his experiences as a land surveyor and entrepreneur. The image is a combination of map layers representing different physical features in the city in which he lives. I used ArcMap to composite the transportation network, parks, and railroads. The final touches were done in Illustrator.

That's pretty cool Amy!

I am wondering if anyone can figure out which city this is?

I like it as well, but I have no idea where it is.

I just realized that I had "Fresno" in the title of the image. Is that how you figured it out, Hans?! Great detective work. ;) One postcard to the Netherlands, coming right up!

You mean there was an easy way? :o

No, I went about it the hard way. I figured that given the very regular layout it would have to be somewhere in the relatively 'new' parts of the US, with little complex geography around it. Arizona, New Mexico, southern California... Well, while looking around on Google Maps I spotted something that looked familiar (downtown Fresno stood out for some reason). Funny enough, I actually drove down CA99 after NACIS on my way to Death Valley.

Amy, I would really like to see the postcard, but my stupid firewall won't let me in, it puts it under the classification of "pornography"??????? Maybe for cartographers it is :P

How bizarre! I don't know why that would happen. In any case, here's a link to the image on Flickr: http://farm5.static....cd30cb75b_b.jpg.
