Small and mid-sized businesses build the backbone of most of the world’s economies. For this reason, it is especially critical that system solutions are available to enable this crucial and important part of the world’s economy to function well within their timelines and budgets. The German ‘Initiative Mittelstand’ (initiative for small- and mid-sized companies) prides itself on making information available to these companies to aid them in selecting the right solutions for their needs.

on Demand solutions have recently been recognized as an economical, efficient alternative to investments in expensive hardware and software licenses for small- and mid-sized businesses. These solutions are quickly implemented and require limited, targetted investments in services and/ or subscriptions.

The German Initiative for Small- and Mid-sized companies has recognized companies for their innovative IT solutions for small and mid-sized companies since 2004. This year a 60-person jury of scientists, IT experts and journalists examined 2000 applications in 34 categories and handed out awards at the 2009 CeBIT exhibition in Hannover.

Axes Systems’ axpand on Demand solution for map-makers has been placed on the list of the Top 20 IT innovations for small- and mid-sized businesses for 2009. axpand on Demand provides an economical alternative for map-makers and designers of geo-information.
