Hi there,
I'm work at small newspaper and use OSM quite a bit to generate printed maps.
normally i select an area, export that as a pdf, open it in illustrator and format it according to my needs.
i wondered if there was a way to optain and integrate relief data as well..?
any hints how to approach that? i know it is possible to export height data (srtm, i believe.) from google earth and then color that in photoshop with a height gradient but how can i match that to my osm path data?
without a gis-software, that is..
any help is very much appreciated!

- Try to get data from http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/
- Download FW tools (about 30MB) from http://fwtools.maptools.org/
- Using gdaldem tools to generate shade relief.
- Using Tiff2pdf to export hillshade to pdf and then you can open shade relief in Illy
Hope this helps

hi ninomax,
thanks for the advice!
especially the srtm source seems very useful.
as i'm working on a mac i can't make use of fwtools (which you suggested to load the relief and shade it, if i'm not mistaken...).
instead i want to use photoshop (for the price of losing the georeference) to open it and shade it. here i have difficulties to open the file. i open it as a photoshop raw which seems to work with teh standart (i.e. the suggested values) but the result is a stripy mess.
i heard that one has to know the dimensions of the file before opening it in ps but it they are not given anywhere on the cgiar site.
do you maybe know a workaround doable for mac people?
thanks anyway!
