Hello, I'm Margaret Pearce. It was great to meet some of the CartoTalk clan at NACIS but I missed out on the dinner. I'm a longtime admirer of this forum and hope that I can contribute and not be a y.a.l.p. (yet another lame professor).
Some things about me: I recently moved to Athens, Ohio from southern Michigan. I teach at OU and feel lucky to have a job that is actually in cartography. I'm enrolled Citizen Potawatomi and have been learning to speak Nishnabemowin, Potawatomi language, for two years. I also love to ski.
My map-quest (oh darn, is that phrase already taken?) is encoding experience through the visual variables. I'm interested in exchanging ideas with cartographers elsewhere in the world who are also thinking about symbolization especially as it relates to cultural geography.
cartography is the meaning of life

Margaret,
Glad to finally have you on board. Now we can say retroactively that the NACIS Map Off panel was 3/4 CartoTalk members.

Well...
Seeing that Martin organised it... I think it's safe to say there was a big Cartotalk influence

Welcome, Margaret.
I thought 42 was the meaning of life...., but no, wait... that's the answer to life, the universe and everything.
