The addressing system that I am most familiar with is similar to what you mentioned jbl, although it relies on state plane coordinates rather than lat/long degrees.
- Roads are sorted into East/West or North/South
- For the East/West roads you would use the East state plane coordinates (5 digits - x12345x.xxx))
- For the North/South roads you would use the North state plane coordinates
The major flaw of this system is curvy roads. There is the potential for addresses to increase, decrease, and then increase again all while traveling in the same direction.

Excellent replies, and resources attached to replies. I do concur with you , jbl, that assigning street names (where they do not currently exist) may end up being a costly element of my venture. I'll be sure to keep you posted when I identify the addressing scheme of choice. Thanks again.
