Hello. I am just curious... I have never used a digitizing tablet or a pen-style mouse thing before.
When I was digitizing/drawing graphics with a mouse (Adobe Illustrator), I was thinking how it would be like if I use a tablet (or pen-style mouse).. Have you used it? Is it good?

there is no faster way to digitise rivers than using a pen+tablet and the pencil tool in illustrator

i would never want to go back and digitise natural features without it

Don't expect to pick up a tablet and instantly start turning out better/faster/easier work. There is definitely a muscle-memory learning curve. It's NOT just a mouse with a different grip.

I've been using a Wacom tablet for about a year. I absolutely love it.
Mind you, I use it only with Photoshop and especially when I want to do fast hand-drawn sketches & layouts.
The pen replicates loose hand mouvements far better than a mouse but for any other point and click activity, I still prefer the mouse

I've been wondering about this myself as I do a lot of natural feature line work (rivers and coast lines). Do many of you who use a tablet use both a tablet and a mouse while working in Illustrator?

I'm wondering if the tablet would be useful enough for digitzing that I'd be willing to have both at mydesk.

I tried to use it for on-screen digitizing a while ago and was less than impressed with the result. I'm sure it'll improve with practice though, but I still think for stuff like that the mouse is the way to go.

I do use the tablet along with the mouse for other tasks in Illustrator. At that point, the fact that I'm a lefty but use the mouse right-handed comes into play

I'm using a Wacom monitor Cintiq 21UX and I have to say that vectorization, editing and view zoom&pan will never be the same. I'm also using Saitek Game Commander for left palm with all important and frequently used commands and even some macros mapped to it. Now I'm also playing with voice commanding software. It is seems to be great to map some deeply nested menu commands to voice control. Ah I think that input devices are one of my weak points.

Lui, I want to ask some questions. Do you think that voice commands increase your productivity? Do you need a microphone separately attached to use the voice input (or built-in one works)? And one more question -if you work in a larger office, does it affect colleagues around you? You're approach to input devices made me curious.
