I haven't been on CartoTalk for awhile but need some help with a GIS problem.
I two layers I'm working with; 1) all roads in the state of Michigan (polyline), and 2) the location of every traffic accident in Michigan in 2008 (points). What I would like to do is create an attribute field for each road in Michigan that counts the number of accidents within 25 ft. of the roadway. So when you look at the attribute table for the roads layer you'd see the name of the road and then a count of the number of accidents along that road in 2008. Can someone help me with how I would go about doing this? Obviously you could do a Select by Location for each individual road but considering I need to do it for every road in the state, that just isn't practical. Thanks in advance for your help.

So I may have answered my own question. I created a 25' buffer of all the roads in Michigan and then downloaded and installed Hawth's Tools: http://www.spatialec...ls/tooldesc.php and am currently running the Count Points in Polygon tool to calculate what I need. Hopefully this will work.
