I look forward to participate in discussions on this site.
I work with a mapping agency in Stockholm, Sweden. We make atlases, road maps, schoolmaps, wallmaps, electronical maps etc.
We have used Bentley MicroStation, InterPlot and Intergraph Mappublisher as well as Adobe Creative Suit in our mapping business for many years. Some years ago we started to use ArcGis for GIS and map making. We soon found out that this was not the optimal cartographic tool for high end map making.
We are now focusing on converting our mapdatabases into Adobe Illustrator/Avenza Mapublisher. We use FME in our conversion process. With FME we have a great and smooth conversion from CAD into cartographic GIS.

Welcome to Cartotalk!
I am curious what your workflow(s) are to handle labeling? Do you hand-place everything?
in MicroStation we use our own interactive nameplacement software.
In ARCGIS we use Maplex, but I hope we will be able to use Avenza Label-Pro soon. I am missing the capability to place text along graticules right now. I guess it will come rather soon.
