I need help in creating a TIN within GIS. I have LIDAR data for a county in Texas. What is the best way to create a TIN while minimizing the loss of data? What is the most effecient way? Any thoughts would be appreciated. The computer crashes when I set the Z-Tolerance to low.

If you are working with county-wide LiDAR data to create a detailed TIN I would think you would need a server, or at the very least dual-quads and over 16 GB of ram.

I don't think the software has caught-up the sheer immensity of processing LiDAR data yet.

Try working with very small extents until you get the detail you want then start working with larger extents until you start crashing and that will be the limit of your system. It's an iterative process.

We have LiDAR at about 1 foot resolution (9 pulses/sq. m) and have to resample it to 15ft for regional work.

Good luck.
