Natural Earth Vector

I've just read in the latest issue of Cartographic Perspectives (not available free on the Internet in pdf format from the NACIS site) that Natural Earth Vector is scheduled to be launched at the annual NACIS conference in Sacremento . . . which was a few weeks back I understand. Can anyone tell me (and I know a few of you have been involved with the development) when it will be widely available?

I'm really looking forward to this too - bummer that it hasn't been launched quite as soon as they thought it might when they announced this at NACIS. But it's hard to complain much about people volunteering their time and energy for such a nice community resource.
Anybody know what the status of this is? I'm anxious to see how it all works.

I helped Nathaniel Kelso a little (did the physical polygons and points for labeling North America) and I had the chance to see a preview of the data and it will be awesome! I've been waiting for this for at least 4 years.
Nathaniel (and others, I'm sure, but he's the only one I've spoken to), is doing a tremendous job. It's well worth the wait.
Can't tell when it will be available though...
I didn't help a lot with the topic after all

We should be wrapped up and published in a couple weeks, at the end of November. We're still debating to release as a "public beta" or as a 1.0 release with plans for a 1.1 release as some themes that are trickier (note below). It'll be ready for use when you have an editor on board, but shouldn't necc. be used straight with the safety off until the whole community has a chance to weigh in on errors and omissions. (we have a cx correction system in place). What are your thoughts?
Final efforts focus on the 10m cultural vectors (admin-0, admin-1, populated places) and sprucing up the website (many thanks to Nick for setting that up).
Here's a preview of the latest populated places file:
