I did some testing on pre-processing data for MAPublisher LabelPro and wrote up my results here:
Data preparation for LabelPro, and why it matters. Basically my point is that if you process your data before running it through LabelPro, and set up seperate sets of labelling rules rather than a "one ruleset fits all" approach, you can significantly improve the results of the automatic text placement.
