I heard about this site from NACIS colleagues recently.
I've worked in cartography, GIS and information presentation since 1983. I designed the 1989 edition of the Washington State official highway map, the second in the nation to be done with computer technology (Nebraska was first).
I have degrees in Architecture and Geography from the University of Washington in Seattle. Learned cartography as a photo-mechanical craft in 1983 and am now learning Adobe Illustrator.
I served as President of NACIS in 2003. Alex Tait and I put together the first NACIS Map-Off. (It was his idea.) Greatly enjoyed the spirited participation of cartographers new to NACIS at the Salt Lake City conference.
I look forward to seeing what I can contribute and learn in these fora.
Greetings from Geriatric Geographer

Welcome! I actually got more into the whole field of geography at UW in Seattle - as an exchange student in 97-98, that made me change my main subject from ecology to physical geography.

Gordon,
Good to have another trained in mechanical Cartography around. I feel it gives us some different insights in to the modern approaches. I think its something to do with all that time spent in the dark waiting for vacuum frames to draw down.
Speaking of NACIS and the Map-off, I never did hear much about that in the forum reports.
