OBJECTIVE
A cartography/GIS position with emphasis in map production and design. Interested in
using my background and experience to solve common cartographic problems and
create high quality products. Willing to relocate.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Freelance Cartographer (05/2009 - Present)
Self-employed cartographer managing projects for National Geographic Maps
and the University of Tennessee Cartographic Lab.

National Geographic Society, Washington D.C.
Maps Division, Cartography Intern (01/2009 - 05/2009)
Assisted in production and editing of multiple mapping projects, including maps for
National Geographic Magazine and the current geotourism series. Worked closely
with clients and fellow team members in map production, layout, edit, and design.

University of Tennessee Cartographic Lab, Knoxville, TN
Cartographer (01/2007 - 01/2009)
Generated reference and thematic maps for production using GIS and illustration
software. Projects involved collecting data from TIGER or other relevant sources
and preparing maps to required design specifications.

University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN
Teaching Assistant (08/2006 - 12/2008)
Oversaw, taught, organized, and graded labs for introductory geography and cartograpy
courses. Taught students to use ArcMap, ArcView, and Illustrator, along with how to
download and organize data for map production.

Assisted in report writing, editing, and map creation for technical reports.
Conducted Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA).
Investigated geologic conditions and hazards, including seismic analysis and slope

EDUCATION
M.S. Geography, University of Tennessee, Knoxville (May 2009)
Completed Cartography, Advanced Cartography, Advanced Mapping
Techniques, Remote Sensing, Geographic Software Design, Graphic Design, and
GIS courses.

Designed and authored a natural hazards atlas of Tennessee. Project involved
collecting and processing data, generating approximately 30 maps and tables,
and overcoming design and layout issues.

B.S. Geology, University of Tennessee, Knoxville (August 2003)
Completed all required geology courses in addition to hydrogeology.
Attended a five week field study in the North Central U.S. doing field mapping,
air photo-based mapping, and gaining a working knowledge of GPS in the field.


TECHNICAL SKILLS
Proficient in ESRI software (ArcView3.2 and ArcMap9.2), Adobe Illustrator CS2 and CS3,
Adobe Photoshop CS3, InDesign CS3, Freehand MX, MAPublisher, ArcServer, ArcIMS
VisualBasic, and Microsoft Office. Can work on both a Mac and a PC.

Hi Tracy,

Am I the only one reply here ?? *looks around my shoulder" ha ha I am the other Pollock here and I want to let you know
that NRCS is placing GIS Specialist/Cartographer position nationwide by the end of 2010.

You can, if you are interested, go to google and type USAJOBS.

They are suppose to hire GIS Specialist at the State Office, and Soil Survey Office. You might want to take a look at Forest Service, USGS ..etc...
