Hello my name is Mandy and I'm a Mapaholic.

I made my first map using FreeHand during Mark Monmonier's cartography class at Syracuse University, while acheiving a Geography degree. I also got my first taste of GIS at Syracuse and liked it so much that I went on to get a Masters in GIS from the University of Edinburgh.

I now work as a GIS consultant for the Bermuda Government's Department of Conservation Services, where I ensure job security by getting coworkers addicted to maps/GIS and convincing them i'm the only one that can provide it to them. ;)

As much as i love pushing data around I'd like to develop my cartography skills so that I can produce better quality and highly effective maps for use in conservation managment.

I look forward to future discussion!

Cheers,
Mandy

Hi Mandy, and welcome to Cartotalk!

Ah, I've read several of Mark Monmonier's books. I think "How To Lie With Maps" should be required reading for any cartographer ;)

Feel free to post some of your maps in the Map Gallery section if you want some constructive criticism.

That's what I love about this site... The criticism can sometimes be hard, but it's always constructive...

I once new a Mandy who made a map in Oregon and called them MandyMaps. Not unlike Mollymaps. I am thinking someday I might start making Mattymaps.

Hi Mandy

Well, Mapaholics is a really appropriate and succint name you have chosen for your passion. We all are with you, so I would say we belong to Mapaholics Unanimous, not Anonymous. Welcome to the forum.
