Dear Sir

I am computer science student and working on a project of symbology. The problems which I am facing are when I resize line symbol then its gap in its pattern are not adjusted according to change in size
(" When I define a particular symbol in style manager e.g. line symbol pattern “- - . - -“, when I increase its size symbol lose its pattern and the gap does not remain as I defined." ) , secondly some time the same line symbol in view behave differently i.e. it rendered in different manner in different part of document.
Also I have problem in area symbol as I want my hatch should be at certain direction to paper but it is always according to digitize direction.

(I am using ArcGis9.2 and VBA for arc object codes.)

Your help in this regard will be appreciated, please

Hello Shuaib,

It would help us if you could tell us which software package you're using.

Problem 1 is something I personally avoid doing, I'd much prefer to simply define a new style. I know Illustrator has an option whether or not to scale styles (i.e. line widths etc), don't know about other applications. Problem 2 is a bad one though.

Hello Shuaib,

From the .pdf, I see that you are using Picture Line Symbols (based on .bmp or .emf files). Try instead to use the "native" ESRI line symbol types, for example Cartographic Line Symbol.

Also, if you are running ArcEditor or ArcInfo ArcGIS 9.2, then you can use Cartographic Representations. With these, you'll have the most control over line symbology (Example 2 from the .pdf).

Finally for your polygon symbology question (rotating hatches), you might also be happy with representations.

Below are some links to the ESRI documentation.

Good luck,

-Cory
