I've put together a site, HydrocarbonSearch, that pulls together oil and gas well data from some of the U.S. state oil and gas agencies.

You can check it out here: http://hydrocarbon.search.eser.org

Currently, it displays only well status and legal-land-description data. However, the plan is to use the formation tops to automatically generate isopach maps and subsurface contour maps.

Please let me know what you think.

This is very interesting! I like the speed, for one thing. You might want to spell out the acronyms. Not everyone will know what API or E&P is, for example.

Thank you for the feedback.

I spent the vast majority of my dev time coding a custom in-memory database to make the map performant (fast KNN nearest neighbor search) -- the UI was more of an afterthought. If I spent some money to purchase additional RAM, I'm pretty confident I could make it 2x faster still.

However, I think you're right -- the content needs some work.

I'm trying to pin down what I should focus on for version 2.

Neat stuff! Where did you pull all this well data from? How recent is it?
