Hi Martin - you probably would get a better/quicker response on a forum dedicated to your software - few members here use Microstation and CAD software...

The SID format is for MrSID compression technology based on wavelet theory of LizardTech. You go over to their website and you will find an add on for Microstation. I had used the same for Microstation J, the latest release of V8 will have the support built in for MrSID files. If you do not find the add on then let me know, I will try to find that on my dumped CDs.

The Open Source (free) GIS package QGIS will open calibrated MrSID images. If all you want to do is to trace some shapes from the MrSID images and save them as shapefiles this would do the job.

Just one other thing, if it's of any use. Irfanview, free (of course
) can open MrSID files and save them in the file format of your choice. If say you save the SID file as a JPG make a copy of the sdw world file and change the extension to jpw.

Also, Global Mapper can deal with that extension.
