Wisconsin State Cartographer
The University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a person to fill the position of State Cartographer. This position offers a challenging and unique opportunity to serve as one of the state’s leading experts in mapping and geospatial information technologies. It provides leadership, outreach, coordination, and the gathering and dissemination of information on a variety of issues serving the geospatial community and the general public.
The State Cartographer heads the Wisconsin State Cartographer’s Office, a permanent unit of the Geography Department at the UW-Madison. The State Cartographer is expected to work closely with the Wisconsin Dept. of Administration Geographic Information Officer, to advise and support the Wisconsin Geographic Information Coordination Council, and to participate in local, state, and national coordination and standards setting activities.
This position requires a Master’s Degree either in Cartography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Land Information Systems, or a closely related field, eight years of professional experience in geospatial activities, and three years professional experience in any combination of supervision and project management/administration. This is a non-faculty, non-tenure track position.
