What's your favorite company for printing your small run custom maps?

For one-off wall map prints, I use sircooper, but am also open to suggestions.

1000 or less is a problem. It's not cost effective to print on the offset press yet too many to be plotted on the ink jet wide format plotter. Click on the RESOURCES link on top and there you will find most map printers in US.

I think you have to do a minimum of 3000 maps to pay around $1 per map. Printing 1000 maps will cost you about $2.60 per map. Printing 10,000 copies will drop the price to $0.50 per map.

Ok. But what company do you use? No matter the size, the shape, the number....

You are on the west coast so try finding someone closer. I use Techna Graphics and Signature Printing.

Size does make a difference, as does fold and paper stock.

If you're printing an 11 x 17" pad map, just shop your local print companies.

If your sheet size is under 28 x 40" (effective trim size for a full bleed = about 27 x 39"), then most larger offset printers are worth a try UNLESS you need to fold first in the long dimension; there are precious few bindery houses around that can fold on a 39" sheet.

On the third hand, if you need a 48 x 40" sheet, you'll want to go to one of the print companies that specializes in maps, and that either have themselves or have access to oversize presses.

Finally, if you're printing on anything other than woodpulp-based stock, find a printer what knows what they're doing.
