A longtime client came to me the other day and needs copies of some very old projects - the file dates are 1993! :(

They won't open in Freehand 10 0r MX and I no longer have access to Freehand 8. I suspect they are FH4 files that would "probably" open in FH8. Does anyone still have FH8 up and running? Would you be willing to try and open these files? They aren't very big but he is anxious to have new copies.

Or...does anyone have suggestions on how I can resusitate these maps?
Thanks, Ellen

Thanks Francois, will try the download first but may need to rely on your kindness.

My current mac doesn't support Classic so will have to wait til tonight and dig out the old laptop and see if I can get the trial version of 8 to run on it.

I still have a couple of machines with FH8 on them, and could probably reinstall FH5 if needed. Call me at 312 322 0900.

We still use FH8 so we'd be willing to help out if need be.

My dad has a story about alligators and draining the swamp. I think this was one of those situations.

Thanks to all who offered to help. Went to the Adobe website and downloaded FH8 on my current computer, transferred the file to a flash drive and then dug out the old laptop. Managed to install FH8 though it took some fussing. Opened the files, saved them in FH8, transferred to new computer, opened and saved in FH10, opened and saved in FHMX, fussed with the type. Saved as PDFs and TIFFs and they're good to go! Whew. Now I just have to sort out some problems with postscript patterns in some of the other files and get this project off my desk.
