NW Mapbook for ArcMap 9.x is pretty invaluable too. It's just like DS Mapbbok - but a lot better! :)

I just came across this tool. I love the interface! You can import a file and have it simplify lines - all without downloading any software. Apparently they'll have a smoothing algorithm up there later.
