Hello Everyone,

I was so excited to join today and read all the comments about the "business of Cartography". I share the same issues when trying to explain to family, friends and even (ex)bosses and coworkers what it is that I do. I loved the comments about how some of you call yourselves "geographic visualization artist".

I have been doing GIS and mapping for about 5 years now (yes I am still wet behind the ears) and feel there is so much to learn! I have worked for the oil and gas industry doing geologic, lease, land and well spot mapping. I recently decided to go back into freelance work full time and am working on starting up my up my business again. Before I was just under my name, but now I would like to name my business - and this is where I am stuck. I am finding it hard to decide on a name that is not boring and gets the point across. Any ideas?

Well, welcome to Cartotalk!

As for a name, how about "The Wright Map"? ;)

Hi J. Wright,

Welcome to Cartotalk! A sanctuary for 'wright' minded people.

I must add that I like the "Wright mapping" wordplay too.

Thank you everyone! I have trying to steer clear of using my name as not to get to "puny" I was thinking of incorporating something along the lines of carto or geo followed by concept or art or something of that nature. But as I have found, all the names I really like are taken. Just getting a name seems to be very difficult.

Thanks again for all the great suggestions !
