Hi,

I'm working on selecting some elements (like park, school, market, etc.) to annotate on the map under different scale.

I've been working on it for days, really confused with it.

Is there any guide, related work or paper about this?

If I understand your question correctly, you may find ScaleMaster helpful. Saw it presented at NACIS 2008 conference, pretty interesting research.
