"SFEI's program in Historical Ecology continues to grow and we're looking for an additional person for our team. Our projects are regional landscape analyses of historical conditions and change-through-time, particularly focused on streams and wetlands of California coastal watersheds. Projects support natural resource agencies and environmental groups involved in large-scale ecological planning and restoration.

As you know, historical research is not always glamorous but can be engaging for the right person. We spend a lot of time tracking down historical sources, acquiring digital copies, organizing information into databases. But the position would also be closely involved in developing timely maps, graphics, and publications for a range of audiences. There is a lot of opportunity for someone with enthusiasm and interest to conduct original research and develop new directions in the field. Somebody with an environmental science or geography background and interest in California history (plus data manipulation and GIS skills!) would be ideal.
