Hello,

I am having issues using the Dissolve tool in ArcMap 9.3 to generalise a sample of UK postcodes [PostalZone] (eg. LS6 7FG) to:

1. Postal Districts eg. LS6
2. Postal Areas eg. LS

I have been using the following process:

Dissolve
Input Features: [PostalZone]
Output Features: [PostalAreas]
Dissolve Fields: [Com_Sect] (Field containing postcodes)
No statistic fields.

This just creates a single polygon as an output. Do I need to use any statistics?

Weird. Your dissolve field has different values. It should work.

The only thing I notice from your screen shots is a space in your path (Session 4). That still can occasionally screw up a process. Try changing it to Session_4 (of course, you'll have to relink your mxd files).
