Adam Savage (co-host of MythBusters) has reproduced one of Tolkein's maps of Middle Earth..

"Okay, so it's obvious by now that I'm a geek. The latest thing I did, was to
draw myself a map of Middle earth. I downloaded one of the maps drawn by
Tolkein's son, and printed it large format (32"x36") and traced the entire thing
on a lightbox. The paper is handmade bark paper I purchased at the art store. "

A few years ago I posted a link to a map of Middle Earth aligned to mostly real European geographic features: http://www.cartotalk...hp?showtopic=95

That's cool.
I hand copied one of the foldout maps from one of the books when I was in junior high school - but I didn't have cool paper to do it on.

I think you should try to create Tolkein's map in ArcMap
I think you already have the hillforms from you previous historic cartographic work. Why not go a "little" bit further back in history to Middle Earth.
