Hello,
It’s been a couple weeks since I joined the NACIS and figured it’s time to introduce myself.
I took my first cartography class at UC Berkeley back in the day when the extent of computer use was to print labels on sticky sheets, and literally cut and paste them onto maps. Since then my work has mostly been in Remote Sensing and GIS, and currently I work in environmental permitting.
About a year ago I started doing some freelance mapping on the side, and am preparing to branch out into map publishing. It’s an area I know pretty much nothing about, and hope to glean some insights from others in this community who have more experience and are willing to share it.
The software I currently use is AutoCAD LT, Manifold, Illustrator, and Photoshop, and used to use Erdas Imagine and Arc products.
One final note: How nice it is to be among fellow map enthusiasts! I told a friend I was going to a map conference and he just about busted a gut laughing. He told me he couldn’t believe there is such a thing. I’m glad that there is, and am looking forward to meeting folks in person in SLC, and digitally here in virtual-land.
