I had totally forgotten that Nick has given me access to the web stats for CartoTalk - when I looked at it today I saw that visits are up 250% since last year, when comparing oct-nov. Now we have some 800-1000 visitors per day.
250% increase in visits!

Woohoo!
It would be interesting to figure out the ratio of hits from bots vs. real live people interested in cartography. Has the membership increased significantly in that same time period?

I just calculated a 241% increase in membership for that same two-month period (Oct - Nov) between 2007 and 2008.
Another interesting graphical statistic is the distribution of topic views (see below) for this whole last year.

interesting. i knew the gis threads were high. i think the level of help/responsivness def has some people posting things here rather than the other gis boards. which is good imho.

Matt, this is google analytics - which is javascript based, and not based on the web server log files. This means that this is almost exclusively real browser visits - it probably even misses a few (browsers without javascript, or javascript turned off - like mobile phones). I can pull out more stats from there if you want to. I saw that page views were up too, with a magnitude similar to visits.
Don't know about recurring visits or time spent on site, need to look at that...
