I can't believe no-one has even mentioned the US election on CartoTalk, yet! Here are some cartograms anyways, and a link to a new cartogram software, that I just learned about.

Scapetoad is very cool indeed, but kinda picky when it comes to geometric data quality. Oh, and simplify your data prior to running it, unless you want to watch a progress bar for hours ;)

Well, it was a bit of a rancorous election campaign at times, maybe people are wary of offending someone from the other side. It also seemed like a long campaign so maybe most are just glad it's over! :P

I think a lot of us are soaking up the relative peace and quite after months of being bombarded with everything that goes along with a election like the one we had. Cool maps!

Well, it's not over for us in Quebec! Federal election about a month ago and provincial election in 30 days... They were waiting after the US election to start... I'll keep my eyes open for good maps! ;)

Here's one that's just fun:

But as a cartographer all I could think was that they'd used 15 distinct colors besides white and black. So I put it in my samples file!

I loved this one, "Thought about mailing absentee ballot. Used stamps to send away for Pop-Tart prize instead."

So Dave, you're saying that I shouldn't paint myself blue, and then run through the forums chanting "Yes he did! Yes he did! Yes he did?!" :P

I'm an Independent, through and through (too much of a fiscal conservative to be a Democrat...or lately a Republican, too much of an environmentalist to be a Republican). However, I'll just say that I was very pleased with how things shook-out on Tuesday evening.

Well, except for Al Franken in his race for the Senate in Minnesota garnering enough votes to trigger a recount. First Jesse "the Body" Ventura as Governor, and now Al Franken maybe/almost wins a Senate seat here too?! Might be time to pull up roots and leave for SD, IA, WI or maybe Maine.... ;)

Only if you have Pictish blood. ;)
I'm quietly chanting "Yes we did" inside (and I'm sure others around here are also, but probably/maybe some aren't). :D

What....I went too far?! :P

FWIW, my two and a half year old was campaigning this Summer/Fall in her day care (which is also in a nursing home) for "Rah-Rock....Oh-MAMA!" She helped contribute to the over-80 and under-5 voter turnouts.....
