Looking For GIS Volunteer Opportunities
I am looking for organization that needs GIS volunteers. I have a background in GIS and environmental science and I am hoping to find a volunteer organization where I can apply these skills and help out a good cause. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Try Mapgiving.org. There doesn't seem to be a lot on it now, but they're basically on the same wavelength.

Try your local land trust. Since the land trust industry is inherently spatial in nature, GIS is a natural fit. In addition, land trusts are non-profits and usually do not have the resources to hire a GIS Specialist or contract GIS work. Your background in Env Sci will also add to your appeal. However, being located in Virginia may be problem. VA basically has one organization that does land trust work instead of multiple, independent land trusts. You could look in Maryland, W. VA, or NC for GIS volunteer work depending upon where you live in VA.
Good luck and thanks for giving your time to volunteer work,
M.
