Is there a command or workaround in Illustrator to convert "Area Text" to "Point Text" ?

This would be very useful for all those text elements that we converted from FreeHand and show up in illustrator as "mini columns". Such a text is locked up inside its non-expanding "Area".
We prefer them to behave like decent "Point Texts" with just one anchor point for every text element.

Thanks!

Hello Marijn,

Rick Johnson has made a script that does that (scroll a bit down on the page). I haven't tried this myself though.

Wow he has good tools out there, but alas they are all for Mac. Any programming pro to convert these for Windows platform? I tried opening one file after decompressing it by Stuffit but it is all gibberish.

Hi, i bumped into the same problem, so i wrote a crude script to convert area to point text in javascript.

Beware : order and text properties may not be preserved.
