About a week 1½ ago the World's leaders met for an extra session of the UN Governing Council in the 2005 World Summit. The UN Environment Programme produced a special publication for this event, a special issue of the semi-periodical Environment & Poverty Times, this time focusing on the Millennium Development Goals.

I was the main cartographer for this issue, and it can be seen and downloaded on the Environment Times website.

One of the maps/illustrations I was asked to prepare for this issue was a timeline of events leading up to the World Summit, and I decided to prepare it inspired by Metro/Underground/Subway maps.

(I hope you can see it, the format is a bit not so convenient for web-publication, in the paper it covered a spread in Berliner format. If you compare to the PDF's on the web-site, btw, you'll also notice that the subtle bevel effect on the 'stations' has fallen off there -- stupid mistake by me...)

Nice timeline! With a couple of good captions.
Here's another example of the subway-approach. Less subtle in design, but the event leading up to this image wasn't either.

Frax,

I love the dead-end commentaries.
