I've got some here
Disclaimer: I did not make this file, I can't remember who did or where I found them though. As far as I can remember, the original author did release them into the public domain and of course all credit should go to him/her.

Hi. Thanks for the files. They are quite interesting, but i did forget to mention that i was looking for shapefiles containing borders from 1946 to 2005.
Actually, I may be able to help you a little bit...
I have atlases/world maps from the following years in my collection:
1936, 1958, 1960, 1967, 1968, 1970, 1986, 1988 and 1999. I could make scans or photos of those maps which you could use as a reference (though they'd be in different styles, scales and projections).
In addition to that, this may be helpful if you're going to construct these files yourself:
Dating old maps and globes
List of national border changes since World War I

I am replying to this old post to answer my own question.
Last year the cShapes dataset was introduced both as shapefile and as a R-package. The project is led by Nils Weidmann (Princeton Uni.) and Kristian Skrede Gleditsch (Uni. of Essex, UK).
These historical administrative boundary files tracks all boundary changes globally from 1946 ->.
Very impressive work.
The URL for the project is located here: http://nils.weidmann...rojects/cshapes
