I just received one files with the extension .ras
I´ve tried to open it with 2 recommended softwares (Ayeview and Irfaview), None worked...
The Irfanview software delivers the error message "can´t read header"
I know in advanced the file concernes a Digital Elevation Model.
Does anyone of the map lover knows how to deal with this kind of files?
Can they somehow be opened inArcGis?
Best regards

If I am not wrong, this extension applies to SUN SOLARIS bitmap files. I do not know which all software especially Intel / Windows platform which can open them. There would be that big-endian to little endian conversion needed, well I am not sure but could be.I just received one files with the extension .ras

Yes, I believe that ProMapper is right. It's a Sun raster image or grid. My current copy of ArcView ArcMap 9.2 can not read .ras files. But someone with an ArcINFO license might be able to.
Good luck.
Good luck.
