Has anyone built or found a VBscript that will over lay a grid on a map and then index the streets to that grid? I found an old AVE script but it will not work with 9.2. I am not a code writer and am not liking the prospect of indexing this thing by hand. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Robert

The ESRI DS Mapbook has an indexing capability that I have found to be a good start. To load it into ArcGIS you will need to unzip the sample (should be found at C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\DeveloperKit\samples\Cartography\DS_Map_BookVisual_Basic.zip) and then register the DLLs. The zip file contains a MS Word doc with the install procedures and the help documentation.

Reed Hunter (ESRI Olympia) has written NWMapbook - which I think of as an "enhanced" DSMapbook. It's not "supported" by ESRI, but I think it works much better. He gave a presentation at a local conference a couple of years ago.

Here is a link for more information.

I can't recall off the top of my head of it does indexing - but if DSMapbook can - I am pretty sure NWMapbook can.

For another take on this see ESRI Mapping Center.

Thank ya'll so much for the help. The switch from CAD based Cartography to GIS has been a learning experience to say the least. One would think that such a common mapping function would be easier to pull off... oh well at least I am learning something new.
Thanks again,
Robert
